Meet Our Pastor, First Baptist Church of Wyoming NY, (585) 495-6503
Thank You for the Opportunity to Introduce Ourselves

It is my distinct pleasure to greet you as the Pastor of our church. My name is Douglas Evans. My wife Anne and I were married in 1973.

I worked as a carpenter for a while and then as a machinist for 14 years. Anne continued her education in banking and went to work as the Sr. Vice Presidents Secretary at the Wyoming County Bank.

My wife and I both recognized God's plan for reconciling our separation from Him because of sin and we placed saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior in 1980. We stopped trying to merit God's forgiveness and humbly asked Christ to place the value of His death on the cross to our sin account, thereby paying our sin debt in full, past, present and future. In accepting His sacrifice on our behalf, we received His "free gift" of eternal life.

In 1984, God blessed us with our first child, a healthy baby boy we named Isaac.

In 1985, I began sensing that God was calling me to fulltime ministry. In 1986 we found ourselves at Davis College, training for the ministry.

In 1987 Leeanna was born and we had another bundle of joy!

After graduation in 1989 I served as the Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church, in Maine, NY. While I was at Maine, I began my Master's Degree at Baptist Bible Seminary, PA.

In 1991 we accepted a call to First Baptist Church, of Wyoming, NY as their Sr. Pastor. I finished my Master's in 1999.

We live in a wonderful community and I am blessed by serving as the Wyoming Hook & Ladder's Chaplain. They are a wonderful, brave, dedicated and caring group of men and women. Our community is very blessed to have them.

I'll conclude this brief biography with my life verses, 2 Corinthians 5:14-15, "For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again."
